Kansas City Royals Agree to Terms with Wilson Betemit to Minor League Contract
Thursday, November 12, 2009 at 10:35PM Kansas City, MO – The Kansas City Royals have agreed to terms with infielder Wilson Betemit to a minor league contract for the 2010 season.
The 28-year old Betemit spent last season in the Chicago White Sox organization, splitting time between the Major League club and Triple-A Charlotte. A switch hitter, he opened the year on the White Sox roster and batted .200 (9-for-45) with five doubles in 20 games, playing both first and third base. He hit .241 in 72 games with Charlotte, recording 19 doubles, 11 home runs and 49 RBI. Originally signed by the Atlanta Braves as a non-drafted free agent in 1996, the resident of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, has a career .258 average with 42 home runs and 154 RBI in parts of seven Major League seasons with the Braves (2001, 2004-06), Dodgers (2006-07), Yankees (2007-08) and White Sox (2009).
