Oakland Athletics Acquire Adam Kennedy from the Tampa Bay Rays

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s acquired infielder Adam Kennedy from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a player to be named later in a minor league transaction, the club announced today. Kennedy will be added to the roster at Triple-A Sacramento.

Kennedy was batting .280 with three home runs and nine RBI in 23 games at Triple-A Durham. He appeared in 17 games at second base and two each at first base and third base for the Bulls. The 33-year old was signed by the Rays to a minor league contract on February 17 and was a non-roster invitee to spring training. Kennedy spent the 2008 season with St. Louis and batted .280 in 115 games. He was the Cardinals primary second baseman, appearing in 84 games, and hit .300 with runners in scoring position.

Kennedy is a 10-year Major League veteran and is a .276 career hitter with 212 doubles, 38 triples, 57 home runs, 423 RBI and 136 stolen bases in 1227 games. He made his ML debut with St. Louis in 1999 and spent his next seven seasons with the Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels from 2000-06. The left-handed hitter returned to St. Louis as a free agent in 2007 and has spent the previous two seasons the Cardinals. Kennedy had his best season in 2002 when he hit .312 with seven home runs and 52 RBI for the World Series Champion Angels and earned ALCS MVP honors. He followed that with a career high 13 home runs in 2003. Kennedy has played primarily second base in his career although he has also appeared in 12 g
