Oakland Athletics Agree to Terms with Five Players from 2009 Draft

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-OAKLAND, Calif. –The Oakland A’s have agreed to terms with four players from the 2009 First-Year Player Draft held June 9-11, the club announced today. The players are C Ryan Ortiz (6thround, Oregon State), RHP Robert Gilliam (8thround, UNC-Greensboro), 1B Anthony Aliotti (15th, St. Mary’s) and OF Anthione Shaw (45th, St. Augustine’s College).

Ortiz was an All Pac-10 selection for the second consecutive season in 2009 at Oregon State after batting .352 with 17 doubles, five home runs, 45 RBI and 39 walks. He had a .348 batting average in 115 career games with the Beavers. Aliotti was an honorable mention selection on the All-WCC team for St. Mary’s after hitting .333 with six home runs and 39 RBI.

The A’s have now signed or agreed to terms with 21 of their 49 selections from the draft, including four of their first eight.
