Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Recall Five Players From Salt Lake Bees

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -SALT LAKE CITY (September 1, 2009) – The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Sean O’Sullivan, right-handed pitcher Rich Thompson, outfielder Reggie Willits, catcher Bobby Wilson and infielder Brandon Wood from Triple-A Salt Lake.

 

To fill the roster spots in Salt Lake, the Angels reassigned right-handed pitcher Dan Denham, infielder Nate Sutton and catcher Flint Wipke from Double-A Arkansas, along with right-handed pitcher Eddie McKiernan from Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, to the Bees.

 

O'Sullivan, 21, has appeared in 14 games for the Bees in 2009, owning a 6-4 record with a 5.48 ERA and 48 strikeouts. In nine games (all starts) for the Angels this season, he owns a 3-2 record with a 6.60 ERA with 26 strikeouts. On July 28 in Sacramento, O’Sullivan pitched the first nine-inning no-hitter in Salt Lake franchise history. The El Cajon, Calif. native was originally selected by the Angels in the third round of the 2005 draft.

 

Thompson, 25, has appeared in 29 games for the Bees in 2009, owning a 3-1 record with a 3.12 ERA and 51 strikeouts. In 12 games for the Angels this season, he owns a 5.40 ERA in 16.2 innings of relief with 18 strikeouts. The Hornsby, Australia native signed with the Angels as a free agent on February 13, 2002.

 

Willits, 27, has appeared in 62 games for the Bees in 2009, hitting .261 with 10 doubles, one triple, one home run, 27 RBI and 11 stolen bases. In 34 games for the Angels this season, he has a .206 average with two doubles, six RBI and four stolen bases. The Chickasha, Okla. native was originally selected by the Angels in the seventh round of the 2003 free agent draft.

 

Wilson, 26, has appeared in 97 games for the Bees in 2009, hitting .271 with 19 doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 55 RBI. He has appeared in two games for the Angels this season, but has yet to make an appearance at the plate. The Dunedin, Fla. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 48th round of the 2002 free agent draft.

 

Wood, 24, has appeared in 99 games for the Bees in 2009, hitting .293 with 28 doubles, four triples, 22 home runs and 72 RBI. In 11 games with the Angels this season, he owns a .154 average with one home run and three RBI. The Austin, Texas native was originally selected in the first round, 23rd overall, by the Angels in the 2003 draft.

 

Denham, 26, has appeared in 27 games (21 starts) for the Bees in 2009, owning a 9-9 record with a 5.21 ERA and 56 strikeouts. In 25 games (all starts) for Arkansas in 2008, he owned a 9-10 record with a 4.44 ERA and 99 strikeouts. The Antioch, Calif. native joined the Angels via trade from Oakland on July 12, 2007.

 

McKiernan, 20, has appeared in 44 games for Rancho Cucamonga in 2009, owning a 5-4 record with a 3.88 ERA and 52 strikeouts. In four games for the Bees this season, he owns a 0-1 record with an 8.10 ERA and two strikeouts. The Monrovia, Calif. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 17th round of the 2007 draft.

 

Sutton, 27, has appeared in 104 games for Arkansas in 2009, hitting .305 with 20 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 40 RBI and 21 stolen bases. In 18 games for the Bees this season, he owns a .238 average with three doubles, two triples, nine RBI and two stolen bases. The Santa Cruz, Calif. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 24th round of the 2004 draft.

 

Wipke, 26, has appeared in 53 games for Arkansas in 2009, hitting .228 with nine doubles, four home runs and 19 RBI. In three games for the Bees this season, he owns a .222 average with one home run and two RBI. The Louisiana, Mo. native was originally selected by the Angels in the 38th round of the 2005 draft.

 

The Salt Lake Beescontinue the team's final regular season road trip tonightagainst the Tacoma Rainiers at 8 p.m. The team returns home on Friday, September 4 to begin the final four games of the 2009 regular season against the Sacramento River Cats at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
