Dakota Wizards to Hold Open Tryouts

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -BISMARCK, ND – The NBA Development League Central Division Champion Dakota Wizards announced today that they will host an open tryout in the practice facility of one of their NBA affiliates the Memphis Grizzlies.  The tryout will take place at Methodist Healthcare Practice Court at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee on Saturday and Sunday, September 20th & 21st.

“This is an opportunity of a lifetime for any basketball player who dreams of playing in the NBA,” said Wizards Head Coach Duane Ticknor.  “One of the players attending will be invited to training camp and get a chance to make our roster and perhaps earn a call-up to the NBA.  Us hosting this event at the Grizzlies practice facility in FedExForum further enhances our relationship with our affiliate, but also gives these guys a glimpse of what their future may hold.”

“The Grizzlies have a valuable partnership with our NBA D-League affiliate Dakota Wizards”, said Chris Wallace General Manger of the Memphis Grizzlies in a recent phone interview. “The Wizards are a first-class organization and we are pleased that their tryout camp will be held here in Memphis. The tryout camp is a tremendous opportunity for any aspiring professional basketball player.”

NBA Development League rules allow teams to hold tryouts in their local markets, as well as in their affiliate markets.  Local tryouts offer athletes an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of NBA D-League coaches while they compete for a position on the team’s training camp roster. A minimum of one player from this camp will receive an automatic invitation to Wizards training camp that is scheduled to begin in mid-November.

The tryouts include one session on Saturday evening (3pm-7pm) and another session on Sunday morning (9am-12pm).  Registration and check-in for the Saturday session begins at 2pm.  Applicants must be eligible to play in the NBA Development League and may pre-register by submitting the official registration, disclosure, and release forms, along with a $150 nonrefundable fee by 5 p.m. on September 19th.  Money orders and cashier’s checks are the only accepted forms of payment for the registration fee.  Applications are available at www.dakotawizards.com or the Dakota Wizards front office located at 919 S. 7th St. Suite 501, Bismarck, ND 58502.

Tryouts will be limited to the first 100 players to register and no incomplete registrations will be accepted.  All applications received after the pre-registration deadline will be subjected to a $175 nonrefundable fee.

The Dakota Wizards home opener is Saturday, Nov. 29 against the Iowa Energy at the Bismarck Civic Center.
