MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Fort Worth, TX. Maybe it's not well expected in the ABA, but the ABA North Texas Fresh, in their first season, showed that there is a team in the ABA that knows the word DEFENSE. For a league known for its high scoring games, this season's Fresh will display those numbers on offense but have stressed defense since the beginning of practice. On Saturday night, playing against the Texas Chapparals, who are a light's out offensive scoring machine, the defense made key stops with full court pressure to push the Fresh to a win, 117-115.
"Everything starts with controlling the tempo at both ends of the court. We didn't do that early, but we did when we needed to," stated Owner/CEO Jay Bowdy. "If our guys play like we did in spurts the full 48 minutes, then look for us to be tough to beat this year."
Bowdy and the coaching staff have emphasized defense from the first day of training camp practice. It has been a missing link in fast paced basketball and something that the Fresh hope to utilize for an ABA Championship. Defense has been addressed with the addition of great defenders such as A.D. Duncan, Ralph Johnson and Titus Byrd on the active roster.

"With all the guys we have this year, we're definitely going to be a great defending team," stated Assistant Coach/GM Aaron Evans. "We stress being great defenders and having the ability to communicate well on the floor. Tht is what made it fun to watch Saturday's game because we had a no-let down attitude." In additional news, Owner/CEO Jay Bowdy announced that C.F. Brewer High School will be the new home venue for the North Texas Fresh. The school is located in Northwest Fort Worth and opened its doors in the 2008-2009 school year. "It is a very nice facility," stated Bowdy. "The campus looks better than a lot of junior colleges and university campuses so this is a great starting point for our new team - a new facility in a great community. "These fans here love to see great basketball and are accustomed to nothing less than success," stated Coach Charles Hill. "This will be perfect for us and I am eager to get things underway."
