Wilkes-Barre Pioneers Pound Mahoning Valley Thunder - af2

Youngstown, OH. –The Wilkes-Barre offense scored on nine of their eleven offensive possessions leading to a 62-47 win at the hands of the Mahoning Valley Thunder. The Pioneers' offense failed to score only twice, once on a missed field goal to end the first half and once more after choosing to run out the clock on the game's final possession. The win improves Wilkes-Barre's overall record versus Mahoning Valley to 8-0.

Pioneers Quarterback Ryan Vena was his usual accurate self completing 23 of his 28 passes totaling 274 yards. Vena was not intercepted and threw for a game-high eight touchdowns. Leading the way for the Wilkes-Barre receiving corps was J.J. Outlaw who proved to be Vena's favorite target. The second year Pioneer had eight receptions for 126 yards and six touchdowns. Irving Campbell and Larry Kendrick added the other Pioneer receiving touchdowns.

Defensive Player of the Game Micheaux Robinson intercepted a first quarter Brad Roach pass returning it 15 yards for a score. That touchdown put the Pioneers up 7-6 and from that point on they would never trail.

Thunder Quarterback Brad Roach had his strongest game of the season going 21-41 for 309 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. C.J. Brewer and Quorey and Payne combined to catch 15 Roach tosses for a combined 240 yards. Payne scored three times with Brewer catching two scoring strikes and adding another two by way of the ground.

For the second straight week Defensive Back Patrick Wells led Mahoning Valley in tackles, finishing with seven. Micheaux Robinson and Chris Royal led the Pioneers with six stops each. Mahoning Valley's Mike Alston contributed the Thunder's lone sack, while Royce Morgan and Justin Parrish both tallied sacks for the visiting Pioneers.

Mahoning Valley now enters their second bye week of the season. The Thunder will return to the field on Saturday July 11th when they visit the Peoria Pirates. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
