The Sioux City Explorers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never trailed in the contest, en route to an easy win at home. Explorers starting pitcher Nick Singleton allowed two runs on four hits while striking out five in seven innings of work to earn the win and run his record to 6-4 on the season. Sioux City CF Dustin Jones led all hitters in the game. He was 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI. Explorers C Chris Grossman also had a nice game, going 2-for-5 with two RBI.

Wichita 12, St. Paul 2

The Wichita Wingnuts moved out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and would cruise from there to a victory over the St. Paul Saints. The Wingnuts piled up 16 hits in the contest, led by LF Blake Gailen, who had a huge game. Gailen was 5-for-5 with a home run, a pair of doubles, two runs scored and seven RBI. All that support was more than enough for Wichita starting pitcher Richard Salazar. He allowed just three hits while striking out a pair in seven shutout innings, running his mark to 5-3 on the year.

Lincoln 9, Shreveport 0

Lincoln starting pitcher Brian Campbell was brilliant through 7 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits while striking out four and walking none en route to the win. The victory runs Campbell’s record to 6-3 on the season and improves the Saltdogs’ mark to 13-8, best in the North Division. Lincoln LF Matt Maloney led all hitters in the contest, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and a pair of RBI. Saltdogs C Shawn McGill and RF Curt Miaso also chipped in with a homer apiece.

Pensacola 2, Fort Worth 1 (10 innings)

This one was a pitcher’s duel to be sure, with Fort Worth starter Joel Kirsten allowing one run on five hits while fanning seven in seven innings of work. Not to outdone, Pelicans starter Daniel Smith allowed one run on eight hits while striking out eight in nine innings. But in the end, it came down to the bullpen as neither starter factored in the decision. Instead it was Pensacola closer Dustin Cameron who came away with the win, improving his record to 3-2 on the season. Pelicans 1B Brandon Sing led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run, his 15th of the year.

Grand Prairie 11, El Paso 6

Grand Prairie got lots of offense in support of a good outing from starting pitcher Justin Garcia to pick up a win at home and improve to 16-5 in the second half. Garcia allowed three runs on four hits while striking out four in five innings of work to run his record to 7-3 on the year. AirHogs 1B Billy Munoz led the way offensively, going 2-for-2 with a run scored and three RBI. Grand Prairie 2B Brandon Carter also had a nice game. He was 2-for-3 with a solo homer and three runs scored.
