Somerset Patriots Use Big Sixth Inning to Down Newark Bears 9-7

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - NEWARK , NJ – A big sixth inning gave the Somerset Patriots the momentum to carry them to a 9-7 victory over the Newark Bears at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Saturday night.
The Patriots banged out five runs in the sixth to over come a four-run deficit and take a 7-6 advantage. Elliott Ayala tied the game with a two-RBI double, and then Vito Chiaravolloti scored on a passed ball to take the lead. In the bottom of the inning, Bears left fielder Raul Gonzalez then contributed his second RBI of the game, hitting a single to score Bobby Hill and tie the game. The Patriots took the lead in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Radmanovich , making the score 8-7. The Patriots scored once more in the ninth to create the final score.
John Pachot led the Bears, going 3-5 including a two-run home run in the fifth, which gave the Bears a 6-2 advantage. He also scored twice and collected two RBI on the night. Gonzalez also led the team offensively, reaching base three times, scoring twice, and driving in two. Bobby Hill, Will Otanez , and Scott Knazek also had multi-hit games for the Bears.
Casey Cahill (6-4) picked up the win for the Patriots, pitching three innings of relief and giving up one run. Shaun Babula (1-3) was saddled with the loss, allowing four hits and two runs over three innings of work. Pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning, Brian Reith earned his sixteenth save of the season.
The Bears conclude their 2008 season tomorrow afternoon with a 1:35 contest against the Somerset Patriots.
