New Jersey Jackals Slug Their Way To 8-0 Win Over Worcester Tornadoes

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -LITTLE FALLS, NJ--- David Qualben (1-2) pitched his way to a victory tonight going five full innings allowing just two hits and striking out five. Kevin Gunter (0-0) and Mark Suchowiecki (0-0) both tossed a pair of scoreless frames for the Jackals.

Alex Pena (2-1) dropped his first decision of the 2009 season after a shaky start in the first. League leader in RBI’s Myron Leslie made his presence felt in the bottom of that inning with a two out single to plate Marcus Sanders. New Jersey pushed across two more runs in the second. Pena looked like he had settled down slightly through the third and fourth until the opposing offense went off for four more runs in the fifth. RBI singles from Mike DeJesus, Juan Tejeda, and Billy Kovatch sent Pena to the showers after five and two thirds.

Worcester pitching actually tied its season high in strikeouts during one contest, but it was in-between those K’s that was the difference. Leslie added a sacrifice fly run batted in to close the scoring in the eighth off PJ Thomas (0-1) following a scoreless one and a third and three strikeouts from Santiago Ramirez (1-0).

Worcester looks to get back on track tomorrow night at 7:05 when they send lefty Zack Zuercher (1-1) to the mound against right-handed pitcher AJ Wideman. Pre-game show begins at 6:50 on WTAG.
