Long Island Ducks Take Down Somerset Patriots 6-3

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Bridgewater, NJ – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-3 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening. The Ducks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Center fielder Lew Ford singled, right fielder Johnny Hernandez singled, and third baseman Ray Navarette hit an RBI double to plate Ford. Left fielder Estee Harris then hit a three-run home run (6) to right field. Long Island extended the lead with a run in the top of the si xth inning. Harris doubled and scored on an RBI single by catcher John Pachot for a 5-0 lead. The Patriots got on the board with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Shortstop Anthony Granato doubled and later scored on an error after catcher Jason Belcher reached on a base hit to make the score 5-1. Somerset scored again in the bottom of the eighth inning. Third baseman Teuris Olivares singled and later scored on an RBI single by left fielder Elliott Ayala to cut the lead to 5-2. The Ducks answered with a run in the top of the ninth inning. Ford singled and scored on an RBI double by Navarette for a 6-2 advantage. The Patriots trimmed the lead to 6-3 with another run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Designated hitter Josh Pressley hit a bunt single and later score on a sacrifice fly by Belcher. Ducks starter B.J. LaMura (4-4) picked up the win, allowing an unearned run on three hits in seven innings pitched. Patriots starter Jason Standridge (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits in five innings pitched. The 2009 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks.
