Sussex 4, Quebec 2 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)

LF Ryan Crespi’s solo homer sparked a three-run rally that carried Sussex past Quebec 4-2 in game one of a doubleheader. TJ Stanton got the win for the Skyhawks by tossing six strong innings. He allowed two earned runs on five hits and struck out three. Matt Petrusek pitched a scoreless seventh inning to collect his second save. RF Maikel Jova and DH Jorge Moreno each had two hits for the Skyhawks.

Quebec 3, Sussex 2 (Game 2 – 7 Innings)

HR: QBC- Pierre-Luc LaForest (4); SUS- Maikel Jova (1)

 

In game two of the twin bill Quebec took a 3-0 lead and withstood a late rally to down Sussex 3-2. C Pierre-Luc LaForest hit a two-run homer in the top of the second to make it 2-0 and the Capitales added a run in their next at-bat as 1B Eddie Lantigua singled home CF Goef Tomlinson. Sussex RF Maikel Jova hit a two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh to close the gap to a single run but the Skyhawks could not get the equalizer.

Brockton 5, New Jersey 1 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)

In the first of two games, Brockton C Chris Grossman’s three-run double broke open a 1-1 game in the top of the seventh and carried the Rox to a 5-1 win over New Jersey. 2B Melvin Falu also had a big game for Brockton as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Jeff Long pitched 5 1/3 innings for the Rox and surrendered just one earned run on five hits. Brad Hertzler got the win in relief. Jackals reliever Romas Hicks allowed three earned runs in 2/3 of an inning and dropped to 0-1.

Brockton 8, New Jersey 2 (Game 2 – 7 Innings)

In game two, Brockton used two big innings to sweep the doubleheader from the Jackals by an 8-2 final. DH Palmer Karr homered and doubled in the contest, while 2B Melvin Falu, RF Jud Thigpen, and 3B Phillip Cuadrado each added two hits. Starter Craig Anderson was solid for Brockton as he worked five innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits. He improved to 2-0 with the win. Stuart Pomeranz had a rough outing as he gave up six earned runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.

New Hampshire 5, Worcester 4

Trailing 4-2 late in the game, The American Defenders of New Hampshire tallied five hits and three runs in the final two frames to defeat Worcester 5-4. New Hampshire 2B Boomer Berry led the charge with a three hit game while four other Defenders had multiple hits. New Hampshire closer Juan Padilla worked a scoreless ninth to get the save. Worcester starter Ryan Mitchell struck out four in six innings of work as he allowed just one earned run. Tornadoes C Alex Trezza hit his first long ball of the season in a losing effort.
