Lakewood BlueClaws Defeat Hagerstown Suns 3-2

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Travis Mattair doubled to start the ninth inning and the Lakewood BlueClaws would turn that double into the game winning run in a 3-2 victory against the Hagerstown Suns in the series finale on Friday night.

The BlueClaws, in a 2-2 ballgame had runners on first and second after the double and a walk to Korby Mintken before Troy Hanzawa hit a ground ball to third which was misplayed by Nick Arata and dribbled into the outfield scoring D'Arby Myers, who pinch ran for Mattair for the game-winning run.

The Suns had three errors on the day and the second error was made by shortstop Steve Souza in the seventh on a groundball hit by TJ Warren which game the BlueClaws a 2-1 lead.

The game began rough for BlueClaws starter Trevor May who allowed the first four batters of the game to reach, and a run to score before getting out of the inning down just one run. Freddy Ballestas was warmed up in the first just in case May could not work out, but instead, came on in the sixth inning after five innings and just the one run allowed by May. Ballestas worked a clean 1.1 and Jacob Diekman allowed a run in the same amount of innings before Santo Hernandez (5-2) pitched another 1.1 and got the win.

Suns starter AJ Morris was equally as effective as May, allowing a run over five innings but Carlos Peralta (4-7) was again hurt by the BlueClaws bats as he took the loss in the ninth, his second loss of the season against the BlueClaws. He also has blown two saves this year against the BlueClaws.
