Shreveport-Bossier Captains Unveil 2010 Schedule

SHREVEPORT, La. – After a successful first season as the reborn Shreveport-Bossier Captains, the team unveiled its 2010 schedule today, which bears quite a few similarities to the ’09 slate with a few new wrinkles thrown in as well.

The 96-game schedule once again features two halves to the season, and stretches from May 13 to August 29. The Captains have 25 home games in the first half, which ends on July 4, and 23 in the second half.

As they and their predecessors have in each of the first four seasons of the American Association, the Captains will open on the road, this time in Fort Worth. It will be the third time in five years that the Cats have hosted the Captains organization to start the season, but the first since 2007.

After four games in Fort Worth, the Captains are off on May 17, before starting the Fair Grounds Field slate on May 18. Opening day will be a day-night doubleheader against Pensacola, with Caddo Parish D.A.R.E. Day in the morning before a big Opening Night celebration that evening. The next morning will be Bossier Parish D.A.R.E. Day, with the series concluding on Thursday night May 20.

Other highlights of the schedule include:
-          A Memorial Day game on May 31 to accommodate the SWAC Tournament that weekend
-          The Independence Day game at El Paso- the fourth year in a row that the Captains have visited Cohen Stadium on July 4, with the Diablos coming to Fair Grounds Field in 2006 on America’s birthday. Overall, El Paso has won three of the four meetings in that series
-          Two trips up north to Sioux City and Lincoln, June 8-13 and August 13-18
-          A busy 20 games in 20 days from the start of the second half until the All-Star Game, which is July 27 in Wichita
-          Three scheduled doubleheaders, the home opener on May 18 against Pensacola, and two at Fort Worth in July

Overall, the Captains have 22 games against the Diablos, 20 against the Pelicans, 18 against the Cats and 16 against the AirHogs for a total of 76 contests against the South Division. They have eight home games against the Northern teams (St. Paul, Wichita and Sioux Falls) and 12 on the road, all at Sioux City and defending champion Lincoln. For the second season in a row, the Captains both start and end each half of the season on the road. The Captains finish the first half on July 4 at El Paso, start the second half in Pensacola on July 6, and finish the season at Grand Prairie on August 29.

For the full Captains schedule, see below.

The Shreveport-Bossier Captains open the 2010 season in Fort Worth on May 13, and will be on the road for the first series of the year. The home opener is a day-night doubleheader against Pensacola on Tuesday May 18. All games will be broadcast on ESPN Radio, KRMD-1340 AM as well as streaming live on supertalk1340.com.
