Burlington Royals Bully the Pulaski Mariners in 13-7 Win - Appalachian League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

PULASKI, Va.- Nine Pulaski Mariner errors led to six unearned runs for the Burlington Royals at Calfee Park on Friday night as the Royals down the Mariners 13-7 to earn the series win.

Pulaski (23-14) mishandled the ball four times in the first inning leading to a 4-0 lead for the Royals.  Burlington (13-24) used back-to-back-to-back home runs in the six run fourth inning including a grand slam from Josh Vittek, who had five RBIs on the evening to build their lead to 10-4.

The Mariners got two hits from Tommy Johnson and Jose Rivero, while Deybis Benitez scored twice for Pulaski.  The Mariners did cut the lead to four in the eighth inning with a three run frame but two more runs in the ninth for Burlington cemented the six run margin.

Kelvin Herrera picked up the victory in relief for Burlington, while Barry Bowden earned a save.  Kyle Hass suffered the loss for Pulaski spoiling a visit from Governor Tim Kaine.

The Mariners will open a three series with Princeton on Saturday night.  Pulaski will host tourism night at the ball park as there will be different giveaways for New River Valley attractions.
