Idaho Falls Chukars Fall to Ogden Rapors 5-3 - Pioneer League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com -

IDAHO FALLS - The Idaho Falls Chukars are 0-2 on the team’s current road trip after losing both games in Ogden. The Raptors followed up Thursday’s 10-9 walk-off win with a 5-3 victory over the Chukars Friday.

In the bottom of the first inning the Raptors jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Davaris Gordon scored on a Steven Caseres single. The Chukars were able to answer back in the third inning, as Shawn Griffin was sent home by a Sean McCauley double. The Raptors took the lead for good in the fifth inning when two more runs came in for the squad from Ogden. A run in the sixth and a run in the seventh completed the scoring for Ogden, while the Chukars were only able to score two more after the run in the third inning. A solo home run by McCauley in the sixth and a manufactured run in the seventh finished the scoring for the Chukars.

McCauley had the best night at the plate for the Chukars. The catcher went 2-4, with a run scored and two runs driven in. The home run for McCauley was his first of the season. The only other player with more than one hit was Patrick Norris, who

finished 2-5. The other seven hitters in the order combined for only two hits. The Raptors gave the Chukars’ offense chances, by committing five errors, but Idaho Falls couldn’t turn those mistakes into enough runs to overcome Ogden.

On the mound Chukars’ starter Bryan Casey picked up his second loss. Casey struckout four batters and walked none in five innings of work. Jesse Carver allowed two runs in two innings of work and Blaine Hardy pitched a shutout inning to finish the game. The staff combined to walk only one batter, the fewest walked this season in a game by the Chukars.

The Chukars have two games left on the road trip, which will finish the first half of the Pioneer League season. Saturday and Sunday the Chukars will play in Orem against the Owlz. First pitch in the series opener is set for 7:05 Saturday.
