Norfolk Tides Triple Up the Columbus Clippers in 9-3 Win - International League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –July 25, 2008 - Norfolk pounded out 13 hits and plated five 7th inning runs as they cruised past the Columbus Clippers 9-3 Friday night.

The Tides entered the game with the highest team batting average in the league, which they upped to .273 after the 13-hit attack. Norfolk also leads the IL in the month of July with 129 runs scored in 21 games, an average of 6.1 runs per contest.

Tike Redman paced Norfolk's offense with three hits and a run batted in, while Oscar Salazar doubled twice to up his league leading total to 31.



Eider Torres and Chris Roberson each had two hits apiece to extend their personal hitting streaks, as Torres has now hit safely in nine straight games and Roberson has hit safely in seven straight contests. Torres has hit .381 (16-for-42) over his his streak, while Roberson has hit .607 (17-for-28) over his seven-game stretch.

Tides starter Andy Mitchell (10-5) was the benificiary of the offensive output, as he moved into a tie for third in the International League with his 10th victory of the season. Mitchell yielded two runs on seven hits in six innings of work, walking two and striking out three.


Columbus starter Craig Stammen (0-1) took the loss, as he allowed four runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings.

Norfolk and Columbus will continue their four-game series on Saturday night, with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 7:15. Chris Waters (3-5, 6.08) will take the hill for the Tides against Clippers righty Dennis Tankersley (2-3, 5.12).
