Northwest Arkansas Naturals Narrowly Defeat the Springfield Cardinals in 2-1 Win

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

Springdale, AR- Behind Kila Kaaihue's two RBI singles, the Naturals were able to capture the opener from the Springfield Cardinals by the count of 2-1 in front of a crowd of 7,032 at Arvest Ballpark.  With the win the Naturals took sole possession of first place as they hold a one game lead over the Cardinals.

The Naturals (20-14, 52-51) got on the board early in the first inning.  Jose Duarte led the inning off with a single.  While Marc Maddox was batting, Duarte advanced to second on Cards' pitcher Kyle Mura's pickoff attempt throwing error.  After Maddox's popped out and Irving Falu's groundout, Kila Kaaihue came up to the plate and knocked in an RBI single, scoring Duarte to put the Naturals on the board 1-0.  The Naturals scored the go-ahead run in the third, when Kaaihue knocked in his second run of the night, an RBI single, scoring Falu, who had doubled earlier.

Springfield (19-15, 55-49) were able to tie things up in the third.  For the second time in the game Springfield loaded the bases, but this time they capitalized.  Isa Garcia hit an RBI single, tying the game at one a piece.  Springfield scoring struggles showed throughout the game as they left ten men on base.

The southpaw Rowdy Hardy got the call for the Naturals, and picked up a no decision.  He tossed four innings, giving up the lone run on five hits, while fanning four batters and walking four.  Chris Hayes (4-1) came in relief and picked up the victory.  He threw four scoreless innings, giving up three hits, while striking out one batter.  Tim Hamulack picked up his fourth save of the season tossing a scoreless ninth.

Springfield's starting pitcher Kyle Mura (3-2), was the hard luck loser, as he picked up the loss.  He lasted 6 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on six hits, while striking out two batters.
