MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Salem, VA—The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the
Houston Astros, got five RBI combined from Tim Torres and Jimmy Van Ostrand
in a
7-4 defeat of visiting Lynchburg Friday night on Lewis-Gale Medical
Center
Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Salem (11-21) got its first
two
runs of the game against Lynchburg (17-17) on a pair of Torres home
runs.
The first run came across as Tony Watson threw an 0-1 pitch home to
Torres
who blasted the ball over the left-field wall for his first home run
since
June 22nd. After Lynchburg took the lead with two in the third,
Torres
retaliated an inning after with his second longball. His two-homer
game
was the second of the shortstop’s career.
Lynchburg took a brief
lead in the fifth as Jamie Romak punched a two-run
single to center for a 4-2
Hillcats advantage. The Avalanche, though,
pieced together a two-out
rejoinder in the home half of the inning. After
a walk and single put
Roberto Mena and Jordan Parraz at first and third,
Cesar Quintero singled to
center to score Mena and shave the lead to one.
The next batter, Jimmy Van
Ostrand pounded a two-run double to left to
give the Avs a 5-4
lead.
Salem then nicked Lynchburg for a pair of late runs as Van Ostrand
pounced
for an RBI double in the seventh. In the next Salem at-bat, Torres
scored
his third run of the game on a ground ball from pinch-hitter
Collin
DeLome.
Salem got a fine outing from starter Corey Bass who
allowed the lot of
Lynchburg’s runs over six innings. Bass earned his fourth
win of the
season.
With the win, Salem broke a five-game losing streak
against Lynchburg.
The Avs and Hillcats reconvene at 6:07 PM Saturday night
with righty Erick
Abreu facing Lynchburg’s Jared Hughes.
