Memphis Redbirds Defeat Tacoma Rainiers 8-3 - AAA, PCL
Monday, July 28, 2008 at 10:29AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis jumped on Tacoma early Sunday afternoon on their way to an 8-3 win at AutoZone Park.
Following a two-hour rain delay David Freese crushed the first pitch he saw from Tacoma starter Scott Shoemaker for a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning to put the ‘Birds on top. Rico Washington and Cody Haerther also added home runs later with Brian Barden chipping in three hits from the leadoff spot. Victor Diaz and Tug Hulett each hit solo home runs for the Rainers.
Clayton Mortensen earned the win for the Redbirds pitching seven solid innings. The right-hander gave up two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts to pick up his fifth win. Shoemaker took the loss for Tacoma allowing six runs on six hits over five innings.
