Kinston Indians Shut Out 4-0 by Myrtle Beach Pelicans - Advanced A, Carolina League
Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 09:49AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com –
Kinston - The Kinston Indians got eight and 1/3 innings of one-run ball from thebullpen, but were shut out by the first-place Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 4-0, at
Historic Grainger Stadium Monday night. Indians' starting pitcher Kelvin De
La Cruz gave up three runs in the first inning, surrendering a bases-loaded
walk to Tyler Flowers and a two-run single by Travis Jones. De La Cruz did
not make it out of the first inning, going 2/3 of an inning allowing three
hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
The K-Tribe bullpen kept the Indians in the game as Josh Tomlin gave three
and 2/3 innings of long relief striking out four of the 13 Myrtle Beach
batters to go down via the strikeout. He allowed a solo home run to Ernesto
Mejia in the fifth inning as his lone blemish. The pen pitched the last four
and 2/3 innings scoreless, with three strikeouts each from Matt Meyer and
Mike Pontius. Mike Finocchi struck out the first batter of his perfect ninth
inning.
The K-Tribe managed five hits, including two from Beau Mills to give him his
28th multi-hit game to tie him with Jared Goedert for the most on the team.
Mills extended his home hitting streak to a Carolina League-best 26 games,
and his CL-leading home on-base streak to 33 straight games. Lucas Montero
got a hit in his first at-bat a K-Triber after being called up from Low A
Lake County. Carlos Santana threw out two attempted base stealers and picked
off another in his first game behind the plate since being traded from the
Los Angeles Dodgers organization for Cleveland third baseman Casey Blake.
