Vancouver Canadians Take 11 Innings to Defeat the Tri-City Dust Devils, 7-6

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

(Gesa Stadium - Pasco, WA) - The Vancouver Canadians scored in the top of the 11th and held on for a 7-6 win over Tri-City Monday night.

The C's opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning, picking up a pair of runs as Mitch Levier hit a single to center field scoring both Dante Love and Leonardo Gil giving Vancouver a 2-0 lead.  NOTE:  Tri-City starter RHP Brad MacAtee walked four and hit two in his one inning of work.

The Dust Devils got MacAtee off the hook as in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Tri-City busted out with four runs on five hits including a Radames Nazario double that scored Patrick Rose.  All four runs were earned and came off of C's starter Ronny Morla.

The Canadians tied the game up in the top of the 3rd inning when RF Jeremy Barfield hit a two-run home run to left field scoring Jason Christian evening the game at 4-4.  The home run was Barfield's first professional long ball.

The Dust Devils grabbed the lead in the bottom of the 4th when Charles Blackmon hit his 11th double of the season scoring Chris Vasami giving the Dust Devils a 5-4 lead.

The C's picked up a pair of runs in the top of the 5th when Jeremy Barfield struck again hitting a double off of the centerfield wall scoring Mike Lissman.  Leonardo Gil then hit a single into left that scored Barfield putting the Canadians up 6-5.

The Dust Devils wasted little time getting to LHP Trey Barham who gave up a single to Kane Simmons that scored Charles Blackmon who had singled and advanced to 2nd on a sac bunt, tying the game at 6-6 through seven innings.

The Canadians bullpen from that point on slammed the door on Tri-City as Dan Thomas pitched a clean 8th inning, closer Jose Guzman pitched the 9th and 10th innings and Edgar Tejeda came in for the 11th frame.

In the top of the 11th inning, Jeremy Barfield picked up his 4th base-hit of the night on an 0-2 pitch that scored Francisco Tirado from 2nd base giving the Canadians a 7-6 lead.

The Dust Devils had the tying run at 3rd base, but C Jordan Pacheco struck out on a debated third strike call that had the Tri-City bench out on the field livid as the C's jogged off the field with the victory in 11 innings.

The Canadians improve to 18-23 on the season, and move to with two games of 1st in the NWL West Division as Salem-Keizer lost their second straight to Boise Monday.  Vancouver plays the rubber match of this five-game series Tuesday morning at 11:15am (*) as LHP Pedro Figueroa gets the start.
