Vancouver Canadians Take 11 Innings to Defeat the Tri-City Dust Devils, 7-6

(Gesa Stadium - Pasco, WA) - The Vancouver Canadians
scored in the top of the 11th and held on for a 7-6 win over Tri-City
Monday night.
The C's opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd
inning, picking up a pair of runs as Mitch Levier hit a single to
center field scoring both Dante Love and Leonardo Gil giving Vancouver
a 2-0 lead. NOTE: Tri-City starter RHP Brad MacAtee walked four and
hit two in his one inning of work.
The Dust Devils got MacAtee
off the hook as in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Tri-City busted out
with four runs on five hits including a Radames Nazario double that
scored Patrick Rose. All four runs were earned and came off of C's
starter Ronny Morla.
The Canadians tied the game up in the top
of the 3rd inning when RF Jeremy Barfield hit a two-run home run to
left field scoring Jason Christian evening the game at 4-4. The home
run was Barfield's first professional long ball.
The Dust
Devils grabbed the lead in the bottom of the 4th when Charles Blackmon
hit his 11th double of the season scoring Chris Vasami giving the Dust
Devils a 5-4 lead.
The C's picked up a pair of runs in the top
of the 5th when Jeremy Barfield struck again hitting a double off of
the centerfield wall scoring Mike Lissman. Leonardo Gil then hit a
single into left that scored Barfield putting the Canadians up 6-5.
The Dust Devils wasted little time getting to LHP Trey Barham who gave
up a single to Kane Simmons that scored Charles Blackmon who had
singled and advanced to 2nd on a sac bunt, tying the game at 6-6
through seven innings.
The Canadians bullpen from that point
on slammed the door on Tri-City as Dan Thomas pitched a clean 8th
inning, closer Jose Guzman pitched the 9th and 10th innings and Edgar
Tejeda came in for the 11th frame.
In the top of the 11th
inning, Jeremy Barfield picked up his 4th base-hit of the night on an
0-2 pitch that scored Francisco Tirado from 2nd base giving the
Canadians a 7-6 lead.
The Dust Devils had the tying run at 3rd
base, but C Jordan Pacheco struck out on a debated third strike call
that had the Tri-City bench out on the field livid as the C's jogged
off the field with the victory in 11 innings.
The Canadians
improve to 18-23 on the season, and move to with two games of 1st in
the NWL West Division as Salem-Keizer lost their second straight to
Boise Monday. Vancouver plays the rubber match of this five-game
series Tuesday morning at 11:15am (*) as LHP Pedro Figueroa gets the
start.
