Corpus Christi Hooks Defeat San Antonio Missions 8-5 - AA, Texas League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com –

CORPUS CHRISTI – Brian Bogusevic homered twice and drove in four runs and Eli Iorg contributed three RBIs on two extra-base hits as Corpus Christi defeated San Antonio 8-5 Thursday before 6,729.

The Hooks are 14-25 in the second half of Texas League play. The Missions are 21-18.

Led by Iorg, the Hooks took a 5-0 lead after three. His two-run double scored Jonny Ash and Jarred Ball in the first; Iorg’s two-out triple to left-center two innings later plated Ash after a lead-off single.

Bogusevic and Wladimir Sutil then chipped in with RBI singles.

Bogusevic, recently converted from the Hooks starting rotation to the outfield, popped his first home run of the year – a solo shot to left in the fifth – with two out.

That sent Will Inman (8-5) to the showers. Inman was touched for six runs (four earned) and three walks over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four.

San Antonio finally found success against Polin Trinidad in the sixth. Singles by pinch-hitter Josh Alley and Drew Macias preceded Chad Huffman’s ninth homer as the Missions halved Corpus Christi’s lead, 6-3.

Trinidad (4-5) was pulled after San Antonio’s uprising and five hits, three walks and two strikeouts.

Bogusevic lifted a two-run shot off Mike Ekstrom inside the left-field foul pole with Lou Santangelo aboard in the eighth for an 8-3 advantage.

Ryan McKeller was unable to slam the door on the Missions in the ninth, giving up a run-scoring single to Sean Kazmar.  Sammy Gervacio induced a bases-loaded double-play ball off the bat of Alley and retired Macias on a liner to center for save No. 5.
