PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Sea Dogs erased
a ninth-inning deficit by scoring two runs to earn a dramatic, 4-3 win over the
Altoona Curve in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday evening at Hadlock
Field in Portland, Maine. The loss was the Curve's second straight in walk-off
fashion. In Sunday's series finale at Harrisburg, Senators'
second baseman Seth Bynum belted a game-winning,
two-run home run to erase a one-run Curve lead. Ronald
Belisario (4-4), who surrendered the game-winning homer in
Sunday's contest, was also on the mound for the Sea Dogs' comeback Tuesday. The
right-hander entered the game with a 3-2 lead, but Portland tied the game on
Josh Reddick's double before capping the rally
with a one-out, bases-loaded RBI single by shortstop Iggy
Suarez.
Altoona enjoyed a rally of its own just one
inning earlier to erase a 2-0 Portland lead. Shelby
Ford and Jose Tabata connected for
back-to-back triples to give the Curve a 3-2 advantage. Ford's three-bagger
scored both Jason Bowers and Angel
Gonzalez to even the score, while Ford easily scored the
go-ahead run on Tabata's triple. Tabata, celebrating his 20th birthday on
Tuesday, went 2-for-4 in the contest.
Both of the game's starting
pitchers -- Altoona's Dan Reichert and
Portland's Adam Mills -- enjoyed solid starts,
but each pitcher received a no-decision. Reichert allowed only two runs and four
hits over 6 1/3 innings, while Mills performed even better with seven shutout
innings.
Carlos Vasquez (2-1) was credited
with the win for the Sea Dogs after tossing a scoreless top of the
ninth.
The game also featured a one-inning rehab appearance by
Pittsburgh Pirates' closer Matt Capps. The
right-hander, who has been on the Bucs' Disabled List since July 2 with a right
shoulder injury, enjoyed a 1-2-3 eighth inning, striking out two batters. He is
expected to make a second one-inning appearance in Thursday's series finale
against the Sea Dogs.

Portland Wednesday evening at Hadlock Field. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
Altoona will send right-hander Derek Hankins (1-8,
