Durham Bulls Blank the Norfolk TIdes as Mitch Talbot Makes History

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – DURHAM, NC—Mitch Talbot became the second-winningest pitcher in Bulls Triple-A history as Durham shut out the Norfolk Tides 4-0 Thursday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. With the win, Durham’s magic number to clinch the South Division title fell to 10.

Talbot (13-7, 3.80) recorded his 26th victory in a Bulls uniform with seven innings of work, allowing six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Dale Thayer and Scott Dohmann followed him to preserve the shutout. Mike DiFelice drove in three of the Bulls’ four runs with a sacrifice fly in the second inning and a two-run home run in the fourth.

Talbot now only trails Mickey Callaway, who accumulated 34 wins with the Bulls from 1998 to 2001.

The Bulls hit the road for eight days, starting a four game series Friday with the Indianapolis Indians. Jeff Niemann (7-5, 5.38) will start for Durham and Jimmy Barthmaier (3-1, 3.63) will go for Indianapolis. Game time is 7:15 p.m., with coverage on WRJD-AM 1410 and 99.9 FM The Fan getting underway at 6:55
