Salem Avalanche Get Snowed in by the Kinston Indians in 7-1 Loss

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Salem, VA—The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, saw the visiting Kinston Indians secure a 7-1 win Friday night on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Kinston (23-17) scored in five separate innings to trump Salem (15-24) in game two of the series.

Kinston started the scoring early with a two-out first-inning charge. Runners were at first and second against Chad Wagler when Niuman Romero singled to left to score Carlos Santana and hand Kinston a 1-zip lead. The advantage multiplied in the fourth when Brian Juhl finished a string of three hits with an RBI single.

In the fifth, Kinston built the lead to three on a bases-loaded walk and doubled the lead in the sixth.  The first five batters reached—four on singles—to plate a pair of runs.  Then, with runners in scoring position, Johnny Drennen’s fly ball to left scored Jared Goedert to place the lead at 6-0.

Salem picked its only run of the game in the sixth.  With one out, Jordan Parraz was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a Jhon Florentino single. Next, Mark Ori skied a ball to left for a sacrifice fly to plate Parraz.

The final run of the night came prior to the first out of the eighth inning.  After Carols Santana singled and Beau Mills doubled, Jared Goedert bounced a ball to Mark Ori for the first out that simultaneously brought Santana in.

Kinston starter Hector Rondon tossed six innings and allowed just one run on four hits.  Rondon was partially responsible for Salem’s longest hitting streak of the year coming to an end in the game.  Jordan Parraz went 0-for-3 to finish his string at 14.

The Avs aim for a game-three win Saturday night as lefty Sergio Severino throws against  Kelvin de la Cruz.
