MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - FORT MILL, S.C. -- First baseman Brad Eldred belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Charlotte to a 4-3 victory over Indianapolis on Tuesday evening at Knights Stadium.

 The Knights improve to 57-74 on the season and 31-32 at home, while the Indians fall to 62-69 overall and 27-36 on the road. The win snapped Charlotte’s six-game losing streak along with Indianapolis’ three-game winning streak.

 Eldred, who played with the Indians during the 2005-07 seasons, provided the game’s big blow in a game that began as a pitcher’s duel. His long ball, which plated pinch hitter Javier Colina, was his International League leading 33rd of the season and broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning.

 Charlotte plated its first two runs in the third when RF David Cook led off the inning with a walk, moved third on a double by LF Jason Tyner, and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by SS Robert Valido. 2B Jason Bourgeois then doubled in Tyner to give the Knights a 2-1 advantage

 Starter Lance Broadway (6.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO) picked up the win for the Knights to improve to 11-7 on the season. In relief of Broadway, RHP Ehren Wassermann (1.1 IP, 1 SO) and RHP Jason Childers (1.0 IP, 2 SO)

combined for 2.1 perfect innings as Wassermann collected his third hold of the season and Childers notched his 15th save.

 Colina (2-for-2, 1 R), who entered as a defensive replacement for 3B Joe Crede in the sixth inning, collected hits in both his at-bats for the only multi-hit performance for Charlotte.

 C Carlos Maldonado collected the only multi-hit game and the lone RBI for the Tribe, while also plating two of the team’s three runs.

 Maldonado plated the first Tribe run in the third, leading off with a double and coming around to score, when CF Andrew McCutchen grounded into a double play. The 29-year-old then belted his third long ball of the season, a solo shot in the fifth inning, that for a time evened the score at two.

 RHP Ross Ohlendorf (6.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO) tossed six strong innings for the Tribe, but took the loss to drop to 3-4 on the season. The 26-year-old has now gone at least six innings in all five of his starts with the Indians, while striking out 29 and walking just seven.

 RHP Marino Salas (0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 1 SO) and RHP Mike Thompson (1.1 IP, 1 SO) combined for two innings of scoreless relief for the Tribe.

 The teams continue their four-game series on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. RHP Charlie Haeger is scheduled to start for Charlotte, while RHP Jimmy Barthmaier is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis.
