Winston-Salem Warthogs Score Early, Never Look Back in 10-1 Pounding fo the Salem Avalanche

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – SALEM, VA – The Warthogs offense erupted early and Clevelan Santeliz dazzled on the mound as Winston-Salem suffocated Salem 10-1 on Tuesday night at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field.  Santeliz (3-5) tossed six solid innings in holding the Avalanche to one run on two hits with six strikeouts to earn the win.

The Warthogs bats came to life early against Corey Bass as John Shelby III lined a two-out double and Estee Harris followed with a two-run homer to give Winston-Salem a 2-0 lead in the first.  Salem answered in the bottom of the inning when Mark Ori smacked an run-scoring double down the right field line to bring the Avalanche within a run at 2-1.

Winston-Salem added a pair of runs in the second inning as Brett Bonvechio doubled and Greg Paiml singled to put runners on the corners.  One out later, Dale Mollenhauer slapped a two-run single up the middle to put the Warthogs in front 4-1.  Winston-Salem continued to pour it on as Shelby III blasted a solo home run to start the third and Greg Paiml added a run scoring single later in the inning to give Winston-Salem a 6-1 cushion.

Salvador Sanchez would add an RBI double in the sixth inning, as the Warthogs would plate two more runs to extend their lead to 8-1.  A run in the seventh and another in the eighth inning would finalize the lopsided affair and improve Winston-Salem's record to 5-1 on their current seven-game road stretch.

Bass only lasted 2 1/3 innings and surrendered six runs on seven hits to suffer his league-leading 13th loss.

The two clubs conclude this three-game series on Wednesday night at Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field.  The Warthogs will hand the ball to RHP Anthony Carter (5-4, 4.92), while the Avalanche are expected to start RHP Erick Abreu (6-5, 4.12).  The first pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
