Ryan Mount Hits Grand Slam in Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 8-4 Win Over San Jose Giants

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Giants got a run in the first inning against the Quakes starter Jordan Walden without collecting a hit. Brock Bond led off with a walk, stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on a Brad Boyer sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.

The defense let down Walden in the fourth with two outs as Larry Infante booted a ground ball with runners on second and third to allow both runners to score to give San Jose a 3-0 lead.

The Quakes finally got to Giants starter Kevin Pucetas in the bottom of the fourth as Ryan Mount and Hank Conger led off the inning with singles and both runners scored on a ground out by Drew Toussaint and a two out RBI single by Abel Nieves to trail just 3-2.

Rancho got the first two batters on in the fifth inning as well before Anthony Norman struck out for the first out of the inning. Reggie Willits drew a walk to load the bases and on an 0-1 pitch from Pucetas, Ryan Mount clubbed his 15th home run of the year, a grand slam to give the Quakes a 6-3 lead.

Drew Toussaint then led off the bottom of the 6th with a solo home run to give the Quakes a 7-3 lead. For Toussaint it was his 290th career hit, passing Derrek Lee for the franchise record for career hits and the extra base hit was his 102nd, passing Ben Johnson’s 101 for the all time record.

The Quakes added a run in the bottom of the eighth after Efren Navarro doubled to lead off the inning, he went to third on a ground out and scored on an error by catcher Jackson Williams to give Rancho a 8-3 lead.

After Jordan Walden went six strong innings, Bobby Cassevah threw two scoreless frames, and Trevor Bell came in for the ninth allowing a run on one hit, but walked two, and got Mike McBryde to fly out to right to end the game with an 8-4 win.

The Quakes will head to San Bernardino for the first of a three game series against the 66ers Saturday with Jordon Towns on the hill for the Quakes against right hander Josh Wall for Inland Empire. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
