Victor Zambrano Leads Trenton Thunder Past the Reading Phillies 6-1

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – (Trenton, NJ)- Trenton Starting pitcher Victor Zambrano tossed seven strong innings to lead the Thunder past Reading 6-1 on Saturday night from Waterfront Park. Trenton has won eight of its last nine games, and tied its high water mark of the season of 30 games over .500 (81-51). Trenton had its third largest crowd of the season on Saturday night at Waterfront Park (7,839).
Trenton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a double play ground ball off the bat of Third baseman Kevin Russo. In the second inning, Second baseman Reegie Corona connected on a two-out RBI single off of Reading Starting pitcher Tyson Brummett (2-8) to increase the lead to 2-0. In the fourth inning, Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez delivered an RBI single to make it 3-0. In the fifth inning, the lead swelled to 5-0 as Catcher Francisco Cervelli had an RBI double, and Center fielder Colin Curtis followed with an RBI single. Cervelli finished two hits, a run scored, and an RBI in the win. Reading tallied its lone run in the seventh inning on a solo home run by Right fielder Jeremy Slayden. Trenton capped off the scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Curtis.



Zambrano (2-0) allowed only three hits and one run over seven innings of work. He allowed just four bases runners. Zambrano struck out six and walked one, and retired 12 in a row at one point. Brummett gave up nine hits and five earned runs in five innings to take the loss. He dropped his second straight start against the Thunder. Thunder reliever Michael Gardner tossed two perfect innings to wrap up the win. Pilittere and First baseman Cody Ehlers also each had two hits in the win.
Trenton and Reading play the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon from Waterfront Park. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m. RHP George Kontos (5-11, 3.68) will start for Trenton against Reading RHP Edgar Garcia (0-6, 8.50).
