Paul McAnulty Hits Grand Slam In Portland Beavers 9-1 Win Over Albuquerque Isotopes

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com -

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - PORTLAND, Ore. – Wade LeBlanc struck out 11 and gave up just two hits over eight shutout innings, Paul McAnulty belted a grand slam and the Portland Beavers avoided a sweep by soundly defeating the Albuquerque Isotopes 9-1 before 9,690 Saturday night at PGE Park.

To highlight the evening’s festivities, the Beavers welcomed Jerry Mathers, who starred as Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver in the iconic television series “Leave it to Beaver,” to PGE Park for the game. Mathers threw out the ceremonial first pitch, answered “Leave it to Beaver” trivia and signed autographs for hundreds of fans while the first 1,903 fans in attendance received Jerry Mathers bobbleheads.

LeBlanc (10-7) matched his second high for strikeouts, faced just two batters over the minimum and is now 3-0 with a 0.72 ERA (2er, 25.0ip) over his last four starts to become just the fourth Portland pitcher to get 10 wins in a season in the eight years the team has been back in the Pacific Coast League.

Vincent Sinisi pushed his hitting streak to 10 games, going 4-for-5 with a double, and Peter Ciofrone was 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Beavers, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Beavers (59-53) batted around in the bottom of the first, taking a 3-0 lead thanks to a solo homer from Ciofrone, a bases-loaded walk to Luke Carlin and Tom King’s sacrifice fly that scored McAnulty.

Ciofrone added an RBI single in the fourth and the Beavers tacked on five more in the sixth as Matt Antonelli doubled and scored on an RBI single by LeBlanc and McAnulty clubbed a grand slam, his first in four seasons with the Beavers.

Dallas Trahern (4-10) endured a tough first inning and allowed four runs, five hits and four walks over five innings to take the loss.

The Isotopes (50-64) avoided the shutout by scoring a run with two outs in the ninth against Brett Tomko, who was making his Portland debut while on a major league rehab assignment.

Next up, the Beavers open a four-game series with the Round Rock Express at PGE Park Sunday at 2:05 p.m.

NOTES: McAnulty has four home runs over his last six games. His grand slam was the Beavers’ second of the year and their 28th over eight seasons (since returning to the PCL) … Jason Wood recorded three of Albuquerque’s four hits.
