MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – MONTGOMERY, Ala.
– The Jacksonville Suns (66-72, 33-35) scored the tying run with two
out in the ninth inning, before scoring three twelfth inning runs for a
9-6, twelve inning victory over the Montgomery Biscuits (69-68, 34-33)
in front of 5,257 Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
The
Suns lead the current series two games to one and are now 7-1 during
2008 in games played at Riverwalk Stadium. Jacksonville overcame a
season-high five errors for the win, while the teams combined for nine
miscues.
Trailing
6-5 with two out in the ninth inning, Ivan DeJesus, Jr. extended his
Southern League-best hit streak to 22 games with an infield single
against Montgomery reliever Roger Deago. Jacksonville native Neil
Frontz entered the game for the Biscuits, allowing a Jamie Hoffmann
single and Russell Mitchell RBI single to score DeJesus for a 6-6
score.
The Jacksonville bullpen held Montgomery to only one walk over the final four innings, giving the Suns a chance for the 12th inning heroics. Against reliever Brian Henderson, Jacksonville scored three runs in the 12th
inning, with three straight RBI singles from Shane Justis, Adolfo
Gonzalez and Adam Godwin for the deciding score. The Biscuits committed
three errors in the inning.
Montgomery
took an early lead with two runs in the first and one in the second
inning against Suns starter James Adkins, all unearned due to four Suns
errors. Jacksonville gained its first lead with a four-run fourth
against Montgomery starter Colter Bean. The Biscuits scored a single
run against Adkins in the fourth to tie the game 4-4.
Jacksonville
scored in the fifth inning on a Ryan Rogowski sacrifice fly for a
one-run advantage, only to have Montgomery’s Gaby Martinez drive in the
tying run in the sixth inning. Biscuits shortstop Neil Walton doubled
in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning for a 6-5 Montgomery lead
before the late Jacksonville heroics.
Suns
reliever Anthony Tomey (1-1) picked up the victory, while Montgomery
reliever Brian Henderson (1-2) fell in the loss. Suns infielder Juan
Gonzalez (1) saved the game with a hitless ninth inning, becoming the
first known Suns position player to ever record a save.If you like the daily news of the Raw Feed, SUBSCRIBE TODAY to the nation's only alternative professional sports magazine, SZ, with original features and great action photography in baseball, hockey, basketball, and football.
