Kinston Indians Outscore Salem Avalanche 10-8 - Advanced A, Carolina League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com -

Salem, VA—The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston
Astros, came back to tie in the eighth Sunday night but fell in extras to
the visitng Kinston Indians 10-8 in 11 innings.  Outfielder Jerad Head's
two-run single to center scored the winning runs to allow Kinston (25-17)
a four-game sweep of Salem (15-26).

The game entered the eleventh equal at eight.  After David Qualben struck
Beau Mills out, Jared Goedert walked.  The next batter, Carlos Rivero,
also drew a base on balls.  After a wild pitch, Salem intentionally walked
Matt McBride to load the bases.  Immediately after, Jerad Head skewered a
2-0 pitch into center field for a two-run single and the 10-8 lead.  Salem
went 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning to close the game.

The Avs treaded into extras with a two-run rally in the eighth.  With one
on and Kinston's Mike Finocchi on the mound, Nick Moresi walked on five

pitches.  The subsequent batter, Greg Buchanan, smoked a two-run triple
down the right field line to score a pair to tie the game.

Salem trailed 5-1 in the game at the outset of the bottom of the sixth.
Jordan Parraz began with a single to left and Jhon Florentino bounced a
ball to third that Jared Goedert flung wide of first to put runners at the
corners.  Next, Mark Ori poked a single to center that scored Parraz to
snip the lead to three.  After a walk, Tim Torres stroked a two-run single
to right.  After a game-tying sacrifice fly from Orlando Rosales, Nick
Moresi doubled to left to score Torres and give Salem the lead.

It was short-lived, though, as Kinston scored three in its next trip to
the plate.  Lucas Montero singled to right against Raymar Diaz.
Immediately after, Carlos Santana blasted a two-run homer to right to give
the K-Tribe the lead.  A third run crossed three batters later as Carlos
Rivero singled Beau Mills home.

The Avs have lost five straight to complete the homestand at 5-5.  They
embark for Frederick Monday to begin a seven-game road trip at 7 PM.
Righty Chad Wagler goes for Salem against Jake Renshaw of Frederick.
