Mobile BayBears Use Dramatic Rally to Defeat the Jacksonville Suns, 3-2

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Brandon Burgess hit a game-tying, two-run homerun in the eighth inning before Javier Brito clubbed a ninth inning, go-ahead homerun, his third homerun of the series, leading the Mobile BayBears (49-64, 20-23) to a 3-2 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (50-64, 17-27) in front of 3,761 Monday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The Mobile win knotted the series at two games each, with Jacksonville still holding a slight edge in the season series against Mobile 12-11. The final game of the season series is scheduled for Tuesday.

All runs for both teams came on homeruns, as Jacksonville’s Russell Mitchell belted a sixth inning, two-run homerun off Mobile starter Hector Ambriz for a 2-0 lead. Ambriz allowed only two other hits over six innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.

The Brandon Burgess homerun came against Suns reliever Anthony Tomey (0-1). In his first at-bat of the night, after a defensive change in the previous half inning, the homerun down the left field line was Burgess' third of the season, tying the game 2-2.

Brito’s solo smash in the ninth inning with one out off Tomey opened a 3-2 lead that Mobile did not relinquish.

Mobile reliever Cody Evans (4-6) picked up the win after pitching two scoreless innings while Jose Marte (4) saved the game with a perfect ninth inning.
