Augusta GreenJackets Deny Rally of the Asheville Tourists to secure 10-6 Win

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Asheville, NC – The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 46-22) held off a late Asheville Tourists (46-24, 37-31) rally on Sunday night and got three big runs in the ninth inning for a 10-6 win.  Starter T.J. Brewer recorded his 10th win of the season and Trey Webb halted a Tourists eighth inning rally for his first save. 

Augusta took a 7-2 lead in the eighth inning but Asheville scored four times on two hits to pull within one run and were helped out by two errors from Shane Jordan in centerfield and Nick Noonan at second base.  Jordan overran a ball in center allowing two runners to move up and Noonan dropped a pop up.   
 
Reliever Mitch Lively gave up three runs, two earned, on a walk and two hits while recording the first out in the half inning and Henry Sosa gave up one unearned run while recording the second out.  Sosa issued two walks and hit a batter. 
 
Webb came in with the bases loaded, the tying run at third base and struck out Jeff Cunningham looking to end the inning.
 
Augusta used the momentum in the ninth inning scoring three runs for a 10-6 lead.  Dom Duggan had a two run triple and Nick Noonan connected for an RBI sac-fly to center. 
 
Webb worked 1.1 innings of shutout baseball while walking one in the ninth inning and getting three fly outs. 
 
Brewer (10-4) worked six innings allowing two runs on seven hits while walking three and matching a career high with seven strikeouts. 
 
Augusta took the early 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out solo homer from Juan Ciriaco and an RBI single from Garrett Baker. 
 
The Tourists got a run in the second inning on an RBI single from Brian Rike scoring Darin Holcomb.  Asheville had the bases loaded with nobody out but could only get one run in the half inning.
 
Augusta took a 5-1 lead in the third inning scoring three times on a two-run single from Andrew Davis and then a throwing error from shortstop Everth Cabrera allowed Davis to score from third base.
 
Asheville got its second run in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI double from David Christiensen. 
 
The GreenJackets added single runs in the sixth inning and eighth innings on RBI base hits from Angel Villalona and Thomas Neal for a 7-2 lead. 
 
The GreenJackets and Tourists finish the regular season on Monday night.  Augusta has yet to name its starter for the final regular season game.  Asheville will send left-hander Christian Frederich (0-1, 11.57).  First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Augusta has 14 home runs over the past seven games setting a season high mark for home runs in consecutive games. 
 
Augusta opens the playoffs with Game 1 of the SAL Southern Division Series on September 3 at Lake Olmstead Stadium against the Asheville Tourists.
