Trenton Thunder Defeat Akron Aeros 2-1 in Game Three of Eastern League Championship Series

Trenton, NJ - Trenton Center Fielder Austin Jackson hit a solo home-run, and made two electrifying catches over the outfield wall, to lift Trenton to a 4-1 win over Akron in Game #3 of the Eastern League Championship Series from Waterfront Park on Saturday night. Trenton now leads the best-of-five game series 2-1, and is one win away from back-to-back Eastern League Championships.Trenton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. With two outs in the first inning, Jackson connected on a solo home run off of Akron Starting pitcher Ryan Edell (1-1) to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. The Thunder extended the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning. Third baseman Kevin Russo picked up an infield RBI single with the bases loaded, which plated Designated hitter P.J. Pilittere from third base. Second baseman Reegie Corona followed with a sacrifice fly RBI to make it 3-0. Jackson robbed Akron Third baseman Wes Hodges on a solo home run with two outs in the fourth inning, and caught a fly ball by Designated hitter Matt Whitney over the wall in the fifth inning. The catch on Whitney negated a potential three-run home run. Akron scored its only run in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Center fielder Nathan Panther. The Thunder tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Right fielder Edwar Gonzalez.

Trenton reliever Anthony Clagget (1-0) picked up the win with 2 1/3 shutout innings. He only allowed one hit. Edell allowed seven hits and three runs in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss. He struck out one and walked two. Trenton Starting pitcher George Kontos received a no-decision. He scattered two hits and one run in 4 2/3 innings. Thunder reliever Jhonny Nunez notched his third post-season save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Nunez has allowed only one hit in five shutout innings in the Eastern League playoffs. Thunder Left fielder Colin Curtis had two hits in the win. He is now 10 x 25 (.400) in the post-season, and has hits in all six games.
Game #4 of the Eastern League Championship Series is on Sunday night from Waterfront Park. Game time is set for 6:05 p.m. RHP Jeff Marquez (0-0, 5.40) will start for the Thunder against Akron RHP Frank Herrmann (1-0, 1.29).
