West Tenn Diamond Jaxx Outfielder Ezequel Carrera Named to Topps MiLB Double-A All-Star Team

(NOVEMBER 18, 2009) JACKSON, TN – Diamond Jaxx outfielder, Ezequel Carrera added another award to his 2009 season accolades by being named to the Topps MiLB Double-A All-Star team. The award was announced in a press release from Minor League Baseball on Thursday..
Ezequiel Carrera (22), of Guiria Sucre, Venezuela, led the Southern League with a .337 average and a .441 on-base percentage. The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx outfielder had a dozen doubles, four triples and scored 68 runs in 91 games. The Seattle Mariners received Carrera from the Mets as part of a three-team, 12-player trade in December.
Carrera became the first Diamond Jaxx player to win a league batting title, hitting .337 to eclipse the team record of .329, set by Richard Lewis in 2004. West Tenn’s speedy leadoff man also ranked first in the league with a .441 on-base percentage, which was third among all full-season minor leaguers.

Carrera started the season on a tear and batted .357 in April and hit at a .344 clip in May before being sidelined with an ankle injury for the remainder of the month. Carrera returned to the lineup June 19 and shook off the rust quickly, batting .316 in 11 June games. On July 8, Carrera injured his right thumb and missed 18 games but returned on August 1 and batted .361 the remainder of the season.

Other Southern League players joining Carrera on the All-Star team are; OF Desmond Jennings (Montgomery), C Tyler Flowers (Birmingham) and P Travis Wood (Carolina). For the entire list of Topps, Double-A All-Stars see attached release.

The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx are the Double-A Affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Season tickets, flex plans, and sponsorship opportunities are currently available for the 2010 season by calling (731) 988-JAXX. The Diamond Jaxx home opener in 2010 is slated for April 14th, as the Jaxx host the Mississippi Braves.
