Inland Empire 66ers Pound Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7-2 - Cal League
Monday, April 13, 2009 at 10:03AM Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes fell behind early on Easter Sunday as starter Robert Fish hit lead-off batter Trayvon Robinson who promptly stole second base and score on a broken bat double by Preston Mattingly. After Fish threw a wild pitch with one out allowing Mattingly to advance to third, Tommy Giles grounded out to first to plate Mattingly to make it a 2-0 66ers lead.
Fish settled down from there and retired the next 12 batters in order before giving up a solo home run to Garett Green with two out in the 5th inning. Inland Empire tacked on three more runs in the 6th against reliever Jordon Towns as Pedro Baez connected with runners on first and second for his first home run of the season and swell the lead to 6-0.
With Sammy Leon in the game in the 7th, Eduardo Perez tripled for the second time in the game and drove in a run to bring the score to 7-0 after seven innings.
66ers starter Chris Withrow was solid in five innings of work not allowing a hit. The Quakes did not get their first hit until Jay Brossman doubled to lead off the top of the 8th. They would plate two runs in the 9th on an RBI double by Matt Sweeney and an RBI single Jeremy Moore to avoid the shut out, but still lost the game 7-2 to split the four game series.
The Visalia Rawhide will come to town for the Quakes home opener on Monday. Rancho will send right hand Esmerlin Jimenez to the mound against left hander Josh Collmenter. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm with post game fireworks to follow.
