Tony Thomas Goes Deep Twice For Tennessee Smokies In 10-3 Romp Over Jacksonville Suns

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Jacksonville, Fla. – The Tennessee Smokies (1-1) belted three leadoff homeruns, including two from Tony Thomas who finished with five RBI, before taking advantage of three Jacksonville Suns (1-1) errors to even the series with a 10-3 victory in front of 6,255 Friday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Hung-Wen Chen (1-0) picked up the victory for Tennessee, allowing two earned runs and six hits over five and one-thirds innings during his Double-A debut.
Also in his first outing in Double-A, Suns southpaw Sean West (0-1) allowed four earned runs, including the three homeruns, with six strikeouts and no walks.
Tennessee opened the scoring on the second pitch of the game as Tony Thomas belted a leadoff homerun. Jacksonville tied the game in the second inning when Kevin Randel’s two-out double scored Bryan Petersen for a 1-1 score.
The Smokies extended the lead in the fourth inning on a=2 0Darwin Barney single scoring Blake Lalli and again on a Tony Thomas leadoff homerun for a 4-1 advantage.
After the Suns cut the deficit to 4-2 when Logan Morrison scored on a sixth inning wild pitch, Tennessee blew the game open starting in the seventh inning.
Tennessee’s Jonathan Mota scored on a throwing error from Suns reliever Chris Leroux for a 5-2 lead. Later a Matt Camp sacrifice fly plated Tony Thomas for a 6-2 advantage.
Jacksonville’s last run scored in the seventh inning on a Ryan Klosterman single, cutting the Tennessee lead to 6-3, but the Smokies pulled away with a four run eighth inning.
The first three batters of the inning reached on a single, fielding error and walk respectively before Tony Thomas belted a double to left field, scoring all three runners for a 9-3 lead. A Ty Wright groundout later scored Thomas to end the scoring at 10-3.
Suns RH Willie Glen will face Smokies RH Casey Coleman in game three of the series Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
