NEW ORLEANS - Portland left fielder Chad Huffman went 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks to lead the Beavers past the Zephyrs 6-3 Saturday night at Zephyr Field.
New Orleans’ starter Willie Collazo began strong for the Z’s, breezing through the first three innings without giving up a run. After giving up one run in the fourth, Collazo ran into trouble in the fifth. He gave up one run and had two runners on base before being relieved by Levale Speigner.
After walking the first batter he faced, Speigner then gave up a two-run single to Emil Brown. The Beavers added a two-run double by Eliezer Alfonzo before the Zephyrs were able to get out of the inning.
Alejandro De Aza had a two RBI single for the Zephyrs in the fourth inning to give his team the lead, but the pitching staff could not hold on. Michael Ryan went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the loss for New Orleans.
The Zephyrs and Beavers meet in the second of the four-game series at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, with RH Jarrett Santos facing LH Cesar Ramos.
