Inland Empire 66ers Cruise Past Lake Elsinore Storm 8-3 - Cal League

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The 66ers ended their seven-game homestand with a
big 8-3 win over Lake Elsinore on Monday night. Trayvon Robinson and Elian
Herrera both had three stolen bases for Inland Empire, the first time a 66er
has stolen three bases in a game since Ryan Rogowski accomplished the feat
on September 2, 2007.

Things didn’t look good for Inland Empire after the top half of the first
inning, as starting pitcher Alberto Bastardo threw 32 pitches and gave up
two runs to give the Storm an early 2-0 lead.

It wasn’t exactly smooth sailing for Storm starter Jeremy Hefner in the
first either, giving up doubles to both Adolfo Gonzalez and Scott Van Slyke
to cut the Lake Elsinore lead to 2-1. The 66ers continued to pound Hefner in
the second inning when Pedro Baez led off with a solo home run to tie the
game 2-2. The runs continued to pour in for Inland Empire and the Sixers had
a 5-2 lead after the second inning, a lead they wouldn’t give up.

The 66ers added three more runs for good measure to seal the 8-3 win,
splitting the four game series with Lake Elsinore and finishing the
homestand 3-4.

Bastardo (3-2) battled through 5 innings of work to get his first home win
since July 2008. Jake McCarter had yet another solid performance for the
66ers in relief, pitching 2 no-hit innings and striking out 4 of 6 batters
faced.

Hefner (3-5) earned the loss for the Storm, lasting just 1 1/3 innings while
allowing 7 hits and 5 runs.

Inland Empire will hit the road for seven games against North Division
opponents, three games against the San Jose Giants and four against the
Bakersfield Blaze. While the 66ers are on the road, tune in to 1050AM KCAA
to hear Mike Saeger call all the 66ers action from up north. If you can’t
get 1050AM on your radio dial, click the “Listen Live” link on
www.66ers.com.

The 66ers will return home on May 27 to play a four game series against the
Modesto Nuts.
