Daytona Cubs Win Rain-Shortened Game 8-3 Over the Dunedin Blue Jays
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 01:00AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-DUNEDIN – On a wet and windy night, the Daytona Cubs (19-19) bats stayed red hot with an 8-3 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays (15-22). The game was called with two outs in the top of the sixth due to rain.
The Daytona Cubs scored two runs in the first inning as lead-off batter Tony Campana reached on an error by the Jays second baseman. Shortstop Starlin Castro followed with a single to right field. In his first game off the disabled list Tyler Colvin ripped a double down the right field line to give the Cubs an early 1-0 lead. After a strikeout by Ryan Keedy, left fielder Jonathan Wyatt brought in Castro with a single to center field.
The Cubs then blew the game open with five runs in the top of the second inning. Daytona sent ten batters to the plate in the frame. The Cubs used four hits and two errors to plate the five runs. Keedy had a big two-RBI single and Jovan Rosa drove in one with a double off the top of the right field wall.
Dunedin tried to make it interesting with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. First baseman Manny Rodriguez led the inning off with a double. Kevin Ahrens followed with a single up the middle and left fielder Adam Loewen loaded the bases with a walk. The Jays’ designated hitter Jesus Gonzalez brought in the first run with a single up the middle. After a line out by CJ Ebarb, Chris Emmanuele plated the second run as he reached on a fielder’s choice. Loewen was able to come in as score as well due to a throwing error by Nathan Samson.

Starter Ryan Searle (2-2) threw four innings of six hit baseball allowing just two earned runs. Dustin Sasser earned his first win after a scoreless inning. Cubs bats amassed ten hits, led by Castro and Rosa two-hit nights.
The Cubs will take on the FSL North-leading Brevard County Manatees in a home-and-home series beginning Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. Rafael Dolis will pitch for the Cubs, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
