Fresno Grizzlies Ninth Inning Run Leads to 3-2 Win Over the Iowa Cubs

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-The Fresno Grizzlies scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning to overcome the Iowa Cubs 3-2 Sunday afternoon in front of 8,949 fans at Principal Park.

Brian Horwitz walked to get on base and was driven home on pinch-hitter Brian Copeland’s single for the ninth-inning lead.

Sam Fuld had two dazzling plays in centerfield for Iowa. Fuld also hit an RBI single in the fifth inning to give Iowa a short-lived 2-1 lead. The Grizzlies tied the game at two in the sixth inning when Matt Downs reached base on an Iowa error. Downs then scored on Ryan Rohlinger’s double play groundout.

In the third inning, Nate Spears drove in Andres Blanco to give Iowa a 1-0 lead, but Fresno tied it 1-1 on Andres Torres’ solo homer in the fifth. Spears was 2-for-3 with one RBI Sunday.

Jake Fox had two hits to extend his season-high hitting streak to 16 games. Iowa’s starting pitcher, J.R. Mathes did not factor in the decision. He allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits over seven innings. Jeff Stevens (0-1) was tagged with the loss and Fresno’s Felix Romero (2-2) picked up the win.

The Iowa Cubs take on the Sacramento River Cats Monday beginning at 1:05 p.m.
