Trenton Thunder Need Longball to Get Past the Altoona Curve 5-3

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-(Trenton, NJ)- Trenton Infielder Justin Snyder hit the game-winning two-run home run to lift the Thunder to a 5-3 win over the Altoona on Saturday night from Waterfront Park. Trenton had its largest crowd of the season at Waterfront Park on Saturday night (7,440). The Thunder have now won seven of their last nine games.

With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Left fielder James Cooper walked with one out against Altoona RHP Jeff Sues (1-3). Snyder followed with the game-winning two-run home run off of Akron Reliever Shawn Nottingham. The home run was Snyder's second of the season. Down 3-1, The Thunder tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. With Center fielder Colin Curtis at third base, and Second baseman Chris Malec at second base and two outs, Designated Hitter Noah Hall delivered a two-run double to tie the game at 3-3. With the win, Trenton is now 3-18 on the season when trailing after seven innings.

Altoona took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on a solo home run by Altoona First baseman Hector Gimenez. Trenton tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning off of Altoona Starting Pitcher Daniel Moskos. With two outs in the inning, Third baseman Marcos Vechionacci walked and then advanced to second base on a single by Left fielder James Cooper. Shortstop Justin Snyder tied the game with an RBI single to plate Vechionacci. But, Altoona would take the lead in the sixth inning on a two-out RBI single by Catcher Steve Lerud. The Curve increased the lead to 3-1 in the seventh inning on a pinch-hit solo home run by Jason Delaney.

Trenton Starting Pitcher Christian Garcia tossed a season-long 5 2/3 innings and yielded two hits and two runs (one earned) for a no-decision. He struck out six and walked three. Thunder Reliever Kevin Whelan (1-0) picked up the win in relief with two shutout innings. Moskos scattered six hits and one run over 6 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out one.

Trenton will go for the sweep over Altoona on Sunday afternoon. RHP Zach McAllister (3-2, 1.91) will start for the Thunder against Altoona LHP Kyle Bloom (0-2, 5.19). Game time is set for 1:05 p.m.
