Frederick Keys Lose 3-2 To Lynchburg Hillcats

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -As Frederick's clamps on its series opener seemed to slip away, a driving rainstorm proved the final knockout blow as with the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, a 1-2 pitch slipped from Keys closer Luis Lebron's grasp, scoring the winning run as the Hillcats moved closer to a playoff berth in Frederick's 3-2 loss.

The Keys led throughout. The advantage was 2-1 heading into the ninth inning.

With one out, Hillcats 1B Matt Hague walked and was doubled home to tie the game by RF Miles Durham. After an intentional walk, LF Jared Keel singled to load the bases.

That is when the sky opened, as pouring rain doused the field. Trying to play through the inning, Lebron had the 1-2 pitch slip away from his hands and the Keys lead had moments earlier.

Frederick led when C Caleb Joseph singled home CF Matt Angle with two-outs in the first inning. Joseph extended his hitting streak to a team season-high ten games. He has the second longest hitting streak in the Carolina League.

Angle would come through singling home 3B Tyler Henson in the second inning to lead, 2-0. But even though Frederick would hold the lead till the ninth inning, they failed to extend upon it.

Keys starter Nate Nery allowed a run on four hits in six innings. He gave way to RHP Cliff Flagello who was outstanding, working two perfect innings.

The series continues Wednesday, June 10th at 7:05 p.m. as the Keys send RHP Tim Bascom to the hill. Coverage will begin with The UPS Store Pre-Game Show at 6:45 p.m. on the Keys Baseball Network.

Frederick returns home for a weekend series with Potomac this Friday, June 12th at 5:00 p.m.
