Jacksonville Suns Split Double Dip with the Huntsville Stars

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Huntsville, Ala. – The Jacksonville Suns (31-34) and Huntsville Stars (37-26) split a Monday afternoon doubleheader, as Huntsville took game one 7-2 before the Suns grabbed game two in eight innings with a 4-3 final in front of 1,253 at Joe Davis Stadium.

In game one, Huntsville starter Bobby Bramhall (3-3) picked up the win, allowing two runs and four hits over five innings of work. Suns starter Kyle Winters (1-2) fell in the loss after allowing five runs and six hits over three and one-thirds innings.

The Stars used a three-run first inning and four-run fourth inning to jump ahead of the Suns. In the first inning, Jonathon Lucroy doubled in a run while Vinny Rottino and Kevin Melillo contributed RBI singles for a 3-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Shane Justis, Lucroy and Drew Anderson singled home runs while another scored on a fielding error by Suns centerfielder Lorenzo Scott.

Jacksonville managed single runs in the second and fifth innings, both driven home by Chris Hatcher on an infield hit and a solo homerun.

In game two, Suns reliever Kasey Olenberger (4-1) picked up the win after a scoreless inning of relief. Huntsville reliever Casey Baron (4-2) fell in the loss, giving up the lead in the extra frame. Matt Peterson (13) saved the game for Jacksonville with a perfect final inning.

Jacksonville built an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning against Huntsville starter Mark Holliman. Holliman's throwing error allowed Lorenzo Scott to score before Mike Stanton doubled home Chris de la Cruz for a 2-0 lead. In the second inning, Scott singled home Brad Davis to open a 3-0 advantage.

Huntsville tied the game against Suns starter Aaron Thompson in the fifth inning on a bases loaded error, groundout RBI and fielder's choice.

The game went to an extra inning tied 3-3 when Lee Mitchell's sacrifice fly scored Logan Morrison for the game-winning run.
