MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Beloit, WI – Beloit left-hander Michael Tarsi allowed just two hits over 7.0 innings as the Clinton LumberKings saw their six-game winning streak come to an end with a 2-1 loss.
Tarsi (W, 2-1) retired the last 18 batters he faced in a row following a second-inning leadoff double from Steve Moss.
The Snappers built a 2-0 lead on LumberKings’ lefty Bobby LaFromboise as Drew Thompson doubled home Juan Richardson in the third inning and Ramon Santana added a sac fly to plate James Beresford in the sixth. That turned out to be the only runs allowed by LaFromboise (L, 4-2) in a tough-luck loss. He allowed only one earned run on five hits, walking none while striking out four.
The LumberKings looked poised to come back against the Beloit bullpen in the eighth. Mario Martinez ripped an RBI double to left-center, scoring pinch-runner Jake Shaffer to cut the deficit in half. Closer Joe Testa was brought on by the Snappers, and he walked pinch-hitter Denny Almonte and Ogui Diaz to load the bases. However, Luis Nunez struck out swinging and Scott Savastano grounded out to end the threat.
Testa (S, 7) then struck out two in a perfect ninth inning for the save.
Nunez finished the night 0-for-4, ending his 17-game hitting streak. Moss and Martinez each had doubles in the losing effort for Clinton.
The LumberKings (37-28) conclude the four-game series with the Beloit Snappers (25-40) tomorrow night at Pohlman Field, first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at www.kcln.com.
