SALT LAKE BEES (Class AAA) - Pacific Coast League - Record 38-30, 1st, 0.5GB
The Salt Lake Bees managed just six hits in a 9-0 loss to the Sacramento River Cats (Oakland affiliate). It was the Bees second straight loss as they fell back into second place. 3B Brandon Wood had two hits, including a double. RHP Dan Denham (4-4), who allowed just one run through the first six innings, finished with four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks.
ARKANSAS TRAVELERS (Class AA) - Texas League - Record 25-39, 4th, 9GB
The Arkansas Travelers rallied in the ninth inning for the second straight night but this time it wasn’t enough in a 6-5 loss to the Tulsa Drillers (Colorado affiliate). The Travelers, who had 10 hits in the game, trailed by two runs before scoring a run in the ninth on SS Hainley Statia’s triple and CF Coby Smith’s sacrifice fly. DH Mark Trumbo led the offense with three hits (two doubles and one triple) and four RBI. CF Smith added two hits. LHP Barret Browning (0-5) got the loss, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings.
RANCHO CUCAMONGA QUAKES (Class A) - California League - Record 29-38, 4th, 13GB
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, winners of four of their last five games, posted a 5-2 win over the Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres’ affiliate). The Quakes pounded out 12 hits, including three by CF Clay Fuller. SS Andrew Romine and C Brian Walker each had two hits. 2B Hector Estrella added a solo home run. LHP Jayson Miller (2-4) went 5.2 innings for the win, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts. RHP Ismael Carmona earned his ninth save with a one-walk ninth.
CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS (Class A) - Midwest League - Record 39-28, T1st, ---
The Cedar Rapids Kernels moved one step closer to clinching a playoff berth with a 4-1 win over the Clinton Lumberkings (Mariners’ affiliate). RHP Manuarys Correa (4-4) was outstanding, allowing one unearned run on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts in seven innings. RHP Mike Kohn struck out two in the ninth for his fifth save. DH Beau Brooks went 3-for-4 with a double.
