Lee Mitchell Goes Deep Twice For Jacksonville Suns In 10-2 Romp Over Carolina Mudcats

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Zebulon, N.C. – Four different Suns hit homeruns, including two from Lee Mitchell, as the Jacksonville Suns (36-35, 1-0) ran away with a=2 010-2 victory over the Carolina Mudcats (37-33, 0-1) in front of 2,363 Monday night at Five County Stadium. Suns starter Nic Ungs (3-1) allowed a two-run homerun and three other hits over seven innings for the win. The right-hander struck out four without a walk.

 

Mudcats starter Jeremy Horst (0-1) was charged with five earned runs off five hits over five and two-thirds innings in the loss. Carolina took the second inning lead as Carson Kainer belted a two-out, two-run homerun in his first Double-A at-bat for a 2-0 advantage. After recording only one hit over the first four innings against Carolina starter Jeremy Horst, Jacksonville jumped ahead of the Mudcats in the fifth inning with three solo homerun. Scott Cousins, Lee Mitchell and Brad Davis homeruns opened a 3-2 Jacksonville lead. Jacksonville added to the lead in the sixth inning as Mitchell went deep again, this time a two-out, three-run homerun off reliever Jerry Gil for a 6-2 Suns lead.

 

The Suns continued to build the lead in the seventh inning as pitcher Nic Ungs singled in Brad Davis for a 7-2 lead. Later in the inning and with the bases loaded, reliever Lee Tabor hit Scott Cousins with a pitch sending another Suns run in. Tabor then dealt a wild pitch to score Ryan Klosterman for a 9-2 lead. Jacksonville’s Mike Stanton finished the night with a two out, solo homerun in the ninth inning, ending the scoring at 10-2.
