Travis Wood Wins Eighth Straight For Carolina Mudcats In 7-0 Blanking of Jacksonville Suns

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com -Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (1-1) shutout the Jacksonville Suns (1-1) 7-0 Tuesday night at Five County Stadium.
Left-hander Travis Wood (W, 8-3) won his eighth consecutive decision, tying Donnie Bridges’ 2003 mark for the most in franchise history. Wood delivered another quality start for Carolina, hanging six scoreless frames on the Suns, giving up four hits and two walks while striking out three. Logan Ondrusek threw a scoreless 9th inning to extend his innings streak without an earned run to 21.2.


Sean Henry knocked the first pitch of the game from Suns starter Willie Glen over the wall in left. Chris Denove also drilled a solo homer, taking Glen deep in the fourth for his second long ball of the season. Todd Frazier went 3-4 on the night, driving in and scoring a run.


Glen lasted only four innings, surrendering four earned runs on nine hits and two walks. Jay Voss also struggled for the Jacksonville Suns, yielding three earned runs in two innings out of the bullpen.


Game three of the series is set for 7:15 PM Wednesday night at Five County Stadium. RHP Zach Stewart (3-0, 1.13) gets the nod for Carolina against lefty Graham Taylor (4-5, 3.34) of the Suns.
